Can I list your name as my graduate mentor?
When applying to Psychology Ph.D. programs at Pitt, prospective students apply to work with a specific faculty member as their advisor. There is a spot on the application where you list potential mentors of interest. That’s where you should list my name if you would like me to review your application.
Is funding available for admitted Ph.D. students?
The Psychology Department provides financial support through tuition coverage and a stipend. Funding may come from research assistantships, start-up funds, fellowships (including NSF), and teaching assistantships.
What are you looking for in a prospective student?

Strong applicants are passionate about our research areas, have a strong academic record, and prior research experience.

We value commitment to diverse populations, culturally humble approaches, and strengths-based frameworks.

Spanish bilingualism is a benefit but not required.

GRE scores are not considered.

Should I email you before applying?
It is not necessary to email before applying. Whether you email or not has no bearing on admission decisions. All applications are reviewed holistically.
Can we meet by Zoom before I apply?
To ensure fairness, pre-application meetings are not scheduled. Selected applicants will be contacted for interviews.
