HAVE HOPE: Honduras Adult Victimization Experience Harnessing Opportunities for Positive Empowerment
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a pervasive phenomenon globally, affecting approximately one-third of women globally (Newmann, 2023). GBV is linked to adverse mental health outcomes including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (White et al., 2024). Honduran Adult Victimization Experiences – Harnessing Opportunities for Positive Empowerment (HAVE-HOPE) will recruit 200 adult women across nine rural and urban municipalities in Honduras to participate in a Qualtrics survey. We will assess rates of gender-based violence and mental health, with a particular focus on healing processes for violence-exposed Honduran women. More specifically, HAVE-HOPE aims to:
1) Assess the rates of gender-based violence among 200 Honduran adult women;
2) Examine the strength of associations between exposure to gender-based violence and mental health (e.g., anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress);
3) Explore healing mechanisms—including hope, resilience, and post-traumatic growth—by examining whether these mechanisms mitigate adverse psychological outcomes among violence-exposed Honduran women.
